There are very few jobs that don't throw up some sort of a challenge to a designer when trying to make a kitchen functional as well as aesthetically pleasing. This one in Regency Drive, Fulwood for Mr & Mrs Tailor was no exception as a very large pillar couldn't be removed when the extension was built as it supported the back of the original part of the property.
We decided to encapsuate the pillar with units and Corian and have it tiled and I hope you will agree its nowhere near as prominent as it otherwise coud have been. There was sufficient room within the island for the hob and just enough room to get the extractor above without infringing on the Velux rooflights. (But only just)
The extractor is very effective as its 'V' shape allows air to be sucked from both sides yet without getting in the way or appearing cumbersome.
The Corian concave island top allows room for the family dining table and chairs to sit comfortably alongside.
The end result is a bright and airy spacious kitchen that copes adequately for Mr & Mrs Tailors large family; all of whom are keen cooks.
